Ha! It’s been over three years since my last blog post! Life happens! Since my last post I’ve moved full time to southern California (Pasadena) and little by little have begun to be more of a part of the music scene in Los Angeles.
I’ve had the opportunity to work on lots of really cool projects, ranging from scoring music and teaching to arranging and orchestration. Someone much wiser than I described the physical area of LA as a “chocolate muffin”; there are scattered morsels of delight within a big mass of dough. The work can be like that as well. Since arriving here in SoCal I’ve worked on a Latin Grammy winning album as an arranger, did horn arrangements for the iconic band Aerosmith, orchestrated music from Danny Elfman’s score for “The Grinch”, and just completed orchestrating, composing some cues for and producing the score for an upcoming Netflix release, “We Can Be Heroes”. Those are a few of the “chocolate chips”, and fortunately the surrounding “dough” is getting less prevalent. Perseverance is the key, and I have no intention of slowing down any time soon.
Of course, living within the parameters of this pandemic has made life for ALL of us very challenging. I’ve done all my teaching online and managed to finish the work on the Netflix project from the comfort of my home studio. However the future of our industry, just like that of many others seems to be in flux until whatever normalcy emerges from all this. With that in mind, I pray that all of you stay healthy, safe and CREATIVE. It’s the latter that helps to maintain a bit of sanity in what is otherwise a stressful existence. So don’t forget to nurture that part of your own being. That’s as essential to our well being as everything else.
Be well!!
